if dc excitation is used to produce manetic flux in rotating machines then ehy it is not used in tr..

Answer / shailesh tankni

in generators or alternators dc supply is provided to the
field along with the mechanical external force for rotating
the field winding. in this way stationary field is used to
produce rotating field which produces rotating flux and
excites the armature winding. so it works on the principle
of faraday's law of induction and provides excitation in the
armature winding.
but in transformer there is no moving part and hence if dc
supply is applied to it there will be no change in flux and
no excitation is produced in secondary winding.

Dear brother there is lot of difference between a
transformer and a generator
Generator which generates the supply it converts mechinical
energy into electrical energy,it produces power.

where as in transformer it transfers the generated power
from one circuit to another circuit with economically

Answer / dileep

actually emf s are two types 1).statically induced emf 2).dynamically induced emf .we r giving dc suply while we are genarating dynamically induced emf's because emf is induced in the conductors wen there is some relative motion between conductor & field .if we r giving ac supply to rotating machines relative motion is zero that s why we r giving dc supply to rotating ma chines & this emf is due to self inductance .. but in case of transformers emf is due to mutual inductance

To generate the voltage in generator extitation voltatge is
required to create magnitic flux ,

but in transformer the winding is connected to supply mains
the winding itself produces flux
