The output of motor is mechanical power, denoted in both hp
and equivalent KW ,whereas output of Tr is AC electrical
and actual power is KVA x PF .

rating of the any equipment is specified depending upon the
usage.
since motor is mechanical device which delivers the
mechanical output, so the amount of Mechanical output to be
specified. further, Voltage, PF also specified for
identifying suitability of installation of the motor and
efficiency for effectiveness of the motor.
In Transformers, Output and Input is Purely KVA. losses,
capacity of tranformer only depends on KVA and Voltage . KW
change or PF change will not effect the losses and capacity
where it is installed.
thats why the motor is rated as kw& transformer as kva.

Transformer gives AC electrical output and the current is
proportional to KVA.With motor we get mechanical output and
should be in HP only. But the HP is converted into KW to get
electrical details

Transformer and genrator PF depends on the nature of
connected load ( Motor ), But motor has its own fixed Power
factor
Therefore Transformer and genrator capacity shown in KVA
and motor Capacity shows in KW........SO...if we want to
measure PF in GEN and TRAN...we require current and voltage
rating...so thier is in KVA....
but motor PF is constant so thier is no need to indiacte in
kva....so.......

To select a rating of any equipment, Output and Input
capacity is taken as a base point.
In a motor or any other electrical equipments, conductor
size is depend on current flowing through the conductor.
size of the core (Rotor and Stator or core of a
transformer) depends on voltage as flux induced in any AC
Machine is directly proprotional to Voltage/Frequency ratio.
Which culminates to Size of equipment directly depends on
Input/Output Voltage and Current of machine. that is why
rating is mentioned as Volatage X Current i.e. KVA.
Shortly, Size of machine is directly proportinal to KVA
ratring. that is why all the electro-magnetic machines are
rated in KVA.

Power output of a motor depends upon the power factor . If
power factor is less it will affect the power consumption of
the motor from the supply mains.
Whereas in case of transformer, its output does not depend
upon power factor. So it is always rated in kva not kw.
