first things it is not block cotton soil it is black cotton
soil. usally this kind of soil we are going to minm 3mtrs
deptth for foundation. if safe bearing capacity of soil is
less then we are proceeding for pile

actory solution for black cotton soil. As it is crack free construction even black cotton soil have tendancy of crack.under reamed pile is slender rod like structure having bulb toward its lenght.

Generally Black Cotton Soil have bearing capacity = 12.5 T/Sq m

Hence we have to transfer load

With Pile foundation we create friction hence transfer load partially by friction & end bearing.

for any structure foundation type =f(soil type,importance of structure,size of the structure, load to be transformed to soil)
1. cohesive soils have low bearing capacity so we prefer pile foundation (have high surface area so skin friction resistance more)
2. cohesive(bentonite clay) have high swelling properties to counter attack this we provide under-reamed pile
3.if size of the structure very large then load/area less so then pile foundation not preferable
