for any structure foundation type =f(soil type,importance of structure,size of the structure, load to be transformed to soil)
1. cohesive soils have low bearing capacity so we prefer pile foundation (have high surface area so skin friction resistance more)
2. cohesive(bentonite clay) have high swelling properties to counter attack this we provide under-reamed pile
3.if size of the structure very large then load/area less so then pile foundation not preferable
