It is due to the skin effect, which reduces effective
crosssection of conductor carryin A.C. current. hence the
resistance increases and larger conductor is reqired.

How do I know if a transformer is saturated? I am doing the simulation of the saturation of a transformer, but what parameter tells me when a transformer is saturated?
