if field supply got tripped generator behaves as an
induction generator

if field winding is disconnected then generator is not
build up bcz there is no any flux in the air gap so no flux
will be cut by armature conductor and at the same time no
emf will be induced
i think raghavendram wrong bcz obove condition occur when
prime mover is disconnected and excitation remains on..

there are two scenarios one in which it is running in
islanding and other in which it is interconnected with
other system. in case one as field is cut there will be no
supply of exciting current and terminal voltage will fall
to zero. also turbine will tend to overrun as there is
sudden removal of load.
in case two as it is interconnected the stator is still
excited and it will behave like induction generator.

If Dc Excitation to the field winding got tripped, then a
condition occurs where the syn. gen draws power from the
grid and starts behavingas a motor.Though this condition is
not allowed to persist, and the system is isolated from the
grid.

We all have seen transmission and Distribution lines In transmission lines the voltage is high and current is low(to reduce I^2r loss) and in distribution lines voltage is low but current is high however the size of transmission wires is bigger than that of distribution wires even though the amount of current carried by the distribution lines is more than that of transmission lines why?
