Explination of Expenwion Joints and Construction Joints in
Panel casting of Causways?
EXPANSION JOINTS:
Expansion joints are constructed to allow the expansion of concrete in summer. If we do not provide these joints there will be development of unnecessary stresses in the pavement.
CONTRACTION JOINTS;
Contraction joints are used release the temperature stresses. In summer temperature stresses are contraction. so there is no problem of temp. stresses as total design stress is reducing with increasing in compaction stress.
but during winter tem. stresses are tension type. design stress or critical stress is more with increase of temp stress . That's why we should have small length panels.so we provide constraction joints.
