EXCITATION VOLTAGE-
IT CAN BE EXPLAIN AS THE VOLTAGE REQUIRE TO EXCITE THE FIELD
WINDING OF A DC MACHINE NORMALLY ITS VALUE LIES BETWEEN 125
TO 250 V DC.

define excitaton voltage and excitation current?..

Answer / engineering.force

Excitation voltage is the voltage across the field terminals
of the dc machine, i.e. to energise the field winding of the
alternator or dc machine. Its value is generally 125-250 V
and it is supplied by a dc generator (in case of alternator)

Excitation current is the magnitude of the current that is
required to produce the required magnetic flux in the
airgap. i.e. the value of the field winding current at a
particular load (or may be rated load) is known as
excitation current.

Excitation voltage is required to supply for the reactive
power demand of the system.
