Which theory is used in the analysis of salient pole rotor
synchronous machines?
Who is credited for this developement?
Could the same theory be used for cylindrical rotor
synchronous machines?
Answer / iamdon
TWO REACTION THEORY is employed for the analysis of salient
pole rotor synchronous machines.
Blondel is credited for the theory.
Yes,Same theory can be used for the analysis for
cylindrical rotor synchronous machines also.Actually
salient pole rotor is a general case where as cylindrical pole
rotor is special case.
In case of salient pole, the air gap is not same with respect
of time.So rotating field faces different reluctances. The gap
is minimum in polar region and is maximum in interpolar region.
By Two reaction theory we break the rotating field along two
axes namely
1)Direct axis and
2)Quadrature axis.
The advantage of the breaking is that the air gap became fixed
(so the reluctance) along both axis seperately with respect of
time.So analysis become quite simpler.
