Answer / vasudevan
DC has zero frequency. Hence, if DC is supplied then XL
will become zero. That is winding reactance is zero. Hence
winding gets short circuited and they will be burnt
immediately. It may cause severe explosive also.

When dc supply given to the ac motor then it has no rotating
magnetic field so when there is no rotating magnetic field
present in the secondary winding so motor does not rotate,
and primary winding may be damaged due to short cercuit.

if dc supply is given to the ac motor as the dc has no
negative cycle and no frequency the reactance part becomes
zero that is XL=0 then there is no winding resistance hence
the winding may burn and the motor may damage

Answer / ajoy boishya
If dc current is supplied to ad motor then the ac motor will move in a to and fro motion the reason behind this is that ac motor has a pair of slip rings which don't change the direction of the current . Hence after on rotation the current through the solenoid will get reversed causing it to turn reverse.

if dc supply is given to ac motor it will work with less effeciency and sparking at the brushes.
in order to overcome the draw backs we found the ac series motor called universal motor.
universal motor app;trimmer mixiers ,small hp machines
