what is different between synchronous & asynchronous motors
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
synchronous motor
in synchronous motor the field is run at synchronous speed
with rotor speed.in this motor speed not depend on load.for
any load the speed will be constant.
Asynchronous motor
in Asynchronous motor the rotor run below the synchronous
speed.in this motor speed depend on load.for increase load
the speed will be change.

SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR
THIS MOTOR ROTATES AT SYNCHRONOUS SPEED AND NOT DEPENDENT
ON LOAD,
BY CHANGING THE EXCITATION OF THIS MOTOR P.F CAN BE MADE
LEADING OR LAGGING.
IT IS ALSO CALLED AS DOUBLY SILENT MOTOR BECAUSE IT RUNS ON
BOTH AC AND DC(FOR STARTING DC IS REQUIRED THEN NOT
REQUIRED)AND THE MOTOR IS NOT A SELF STARTING MOTOR.....
FOR STARTING IT REQUIRES DAMPER WINDING
ASYNCHRONOUS MOTOR
THIS MOTOR ALWAYS ROTATES AT A SPEED LESS THAN SYNCHRONOUS
SPEED
AND SPEED CHANGES DUE TO LOAD AT START THEN BECOME LIKE
CONSTANT
ONLY WORKS ON AC SUPPLY
THIS MOTOR IS SELF STARTING.
AND ALWAYS RUNS ON LAGGING POWER FACTOR

Basic diff is SLIP factor. In syc motor slip is less than
the asyn motor (Induction motor). because of that in syc
motor rotor speed is equal to stator speed or emf. In
induction motor rotor speed is less than the stator field or
emf. so it run slow.
sy motor: not effect on load
ay motor: effect on load

How does frequency affect KVA rating of a transformer? If a 500 kva, 500 to 250 v, 60 hz t/f used in Canada is to be operated on 50 hz in Europe frequency then how will its KVA rating change? a-increase b-decrease c-remains same
Why is back emf used for a DC motor? Highlight its significance.
We have 11kV/110V three phase indoor potential transformer in 66/11kV Sub-station, where the failure of PT is frequently happening and the rating of the PT is 0.2 class accuracy, with primary star and seconday (two cores) star connected. Some experts has suggested to not to connect the PT Primary neutral to the ground because when transformer neutal NCT connection is loose; the faulty current will flow through the PT primary neutral, resulting into failure of PT. My question is: Is it necessary to remove the primary neutral connection of the PT from ground? if not, what would be the reason for failure of PT. Please guide me.
