A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / kumar

it depends on the direction of flow of air. If the room is
closed we may assume that air flow is restricted. But here
it is mentioned that open room. in such case plate hanging
in vertical direction will cool first. becaue generally air
folw will be pridominent in horizontal direction then
vertical. hence vertical hanging palte will receive more
bombartment from horizontal flowing air, and will cool at
faster rate

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / mohan

VERTICAL ONE WILL COOL FASTER DUE TO NATURAL CONVECTION OF
HOT AIR FROM THE SURFACE OF THE PLATES ON BOTH THE SIDES...
BUT IN CASE OF HORIZONTAL PLATE, DOWNWARD SURFACE EMITTING
HEAT,THE AIR WHICH GETS HEATED UP CANNOT RISE UP (HOT AIR IS
LIGHTER THAN COLD AIR) SO, THE HEAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE
PLATE SURFACE AND AIR AT BOTTOM IS LESS COMPARED TO THE
VERTICAL CASE, HENCE VERTICAL PLATE WILL COOL FASTER....

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / jacky

I think there is a small twist in the question. Normally if
it was a closed room and the plates are stationary then
according to the principle of natural convection the
vertical plate will emit more heat and will cool faster than
the horizontal one. But here its mentioned that the room is
open, so there may be some air flow horizontally too. So the
answer depends on the rate of air flow too. But nothing is
mentioned here. So we cant assume huge air flow. Note that
the natural convection effect is also there. So the more
correct answer would be the vertical plate....

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / muralidharan m

First this two plates are suspended in open room,
and we are giving thermal source means automatically will get
heat only.
As per this my suggestion this plates will not get
cool(Weather its vertical or horizontal).

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / vivek

I think horizontal one.
Becoz cooling will occur due to natural convection. As the
horizontal plate will have more upper surface, so more heat
will go up in the form of air as it is a law of convection.
so it will cool faster than vertical.

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / sujit singh

here since cooling will take place by convection. if the temp of plate is higher than room temp .. heat will flow from plate to room.. thus causing it to cool. heat transfer by convection depends on surface area.. and here surface area exposed to room atmosphere is same in both case... so both will cool at same rate.there is natural convection as we are not using any device to cause the motion of air over plate. so no question of forced convection.

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / nitish rai

The plate with the larger specific dimension exposed to air flow will have a higher rate of heat transfer so the plate with HORIZONTAL orientation is cooling through;
FORCED CONVECTION
&
that with VERTICAL orientation with NATURAL CONVECTION

hence Horizontal plate should cool faster.

nitin is ryt .....see a simple example of .......bike engine
.....fins r used ...n have u ever see vertical fin in ur
bike ,,,never,,,,,,always horizontal......it is air nt a
metal or a solid in which u r seeeing conduction.....bt here
is air n case is fr convection.

A vertical plate and a horizontal plate are suspended in an open room. Both are heated to the same..

Answer / nitish

Dear frnd plate is suspended so there is no point of contact moreover vertical plate will only cool due to natural convection........therefore HORIZONTAL will cool faster.

vertical one, since it is in less contact with grond
compartive to others.
