how we can calculate power factor without knowing current in 230v 100w load ?..

Answer / nandu

this is approximation:
As we know that power factor can,t be grater than 1 and we
also know that our supply voltage variation is -10% to +10%
we can't take +10% because pf<=1
so -10% of 230 is v(10%)=207v
as we already know that pf=p/vi
=> i=p/v(10%) =100/207A
=> pf=100/230(100/207)=207/230=0.9

so power factor is (approximate) = 0.9

how we can calculate power factor without knowing current in 230v 100w load ?..

Answer / asheesh

to calculate power factor first we have to calculate
current. for this we can apply rated voltage to load and
then measure the current flowing through load by measuring
instrument and then
power factor = watt/rated voltage*current

how we can calculate power factor without knowing current in 230v 100w load ?..

Answer / ajayiet

ha ha he man are u all
insane.load rating is either in
kva or kw.100 w means that
either it is a motor load or
resistance.so pf is unity.

how we can calculate power factor without knowing current in 230v 100w load ?..

Answer / amarnath

PF= 0.8 Default

Use the Formula P=V*I*Cos PI
P= Power= 100W
V= Voltage= 230V
I=?
Cos PI= 0.8

how we can calculate power factor without knowing current in 230v 100w load ?..

Answer / gnaneshwar

without knowing current we cannot find the powerfactor.As per
question we have voltage v=230 and power p=100w as per
ohm'slaw p=vi,so I=p/v you'll get current then powerfactor=p/vI
