RUIM -> renovable user identity module
SIM -> subscriber identity module
Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) is a card developed
for CDMA handsets that extends the GSM SIM card to CDMA
phones and networks. To work in CDMA networks, the R-UIM
contains an early version of the CSIM(cdma subscriber
identity module) application. The card also contains SIM
(GSM) application, so it can work on both networks. It is
physically compatible with GSM SIMs and can fit into
existing GSM phones as it is an extension of the GSM
This form of card is widely used in China under the CDMA
service of China Unicom(

Hi All,
The expansion of UIM is User Identity Module
and the expansion of SIM is Subscriber Identity Module.
The major difference between Sim & Uim is :-
Sim used for GSM network whereas UIM used for CDMA network.
In simple way,Multiple network can entered in GSM, whereas
in CDMA only one is linked.. So that in CDMA the voice
clearity would be fine compare to GSM.
Hope you got it, Please correct me if iam wrong..
