What is the difference between Isolator & Load Break Switch?..

Answer / subhanshu

Isolator & Load break switch are devices which are meant
for breaking and making a circuit..

The primary difference between them is Isolator is not
capable of breaking a circuit on load while the Load Break
switch is capable of doing the same.

What is the difference between Isolator & Load Break Switch?..

Answer / dhruv vipul

An isolator switch is part of an electrical circuit and is
most often found in industrial applications, however they
are commonly fitted to domestic extractor fans when used in
bathrooms in the UK. Isolator switches may be fitted with
the ability for the switch to padlock such that inadvertent
operation is not possible (see: Lock and tag). In some
designs the isolator switch has the additional ability to
earth the isolated circuit thereby providing additional
safety. Such an arrangement would apply to circuits which
inter-connect power distribution systems where both end of
the circuit need to be isolated.

Major difference between isolator and circuit breaker is
that isolator is an off-load device, whereas circuit
breaker is an on-load device.

Standards in some countries for safety may require either
local motor isolators or lockable overloads (which can be
padlocked).

What is the difference between Isolator & Load Break Switch?..

Answer / bala

Isolator is a switch without having the protection,it is
only to ON & OFF.
Load Break switch is a switch having FUSE inside the Switch
for protecting against short Circuit & overload condition.

What is the difference between Isolator & Load Break Switch?..

Answer / dharmendra kumar dwivedi

Your thread is not very clear. There are two types of AB switches one off load circuit breakers and other on load air circuit breakers. AB switches are normally off load circuit breakers with manual switching and can be called as isolators. Their design is simple and important design feature is only contact reliability and voltage and current rating. There is no fuse protection or over load or earth fault protection. For on load circuit make and break,ABCB/ OCB/MOCB/ VCB / SF6 circuit breakers are used depending on voltage and current rating. They operate on overload and earth fault with earth fault and overload tripping relays and arc quenching devices
