what is the meaning of flaring..

Answer / murthy

flaring is burning of excess gases in safe area away from
plant.these can observed in almost all
petrochemical/petroleum refineries/power plants/steeel
plants wherever hydrocarbon gases which form explosive
mixtures are used.this is done due to many reasons
(1) excess gas production than requirement of downstream
plants
(2)sudden tripping of consumers i.e downstream plants
(3) gas not meeting standards required by customer i.e
downstream plants
(4)unwanted pressure increase in pipelines conneting
customer and supplier
(5) stopppage equipment like compressors,blower.
(6)even when there is pipeline leaks, gas is routed to
flares.

what is the meaning of flaring..

Answer / pradip ramoliya

Some times in refineries interconnected plant's. So, any
plant in abnormal condition that time effected to other
system and the pressure of system is abnormal. So extra
pressure and unuseful gases are remove from system for
normal condition and gases go to flare and combustion them.
That called flaring

CHEMICAL MATERIAL BALANCE – EXAMPLE 2.2 : Three hundred gallons of a mixture containing 75.0 wt % ethanol and 25 wt % water (mixture specific gravity = 0.877) and a quantity of a 40.0 wt % ethanol - 60 wt % water mixture (specific gravity = 0.952) are blended to produce a mixture containing 60.0 wt % ethanol. The specific gravity of a substance is the ratio of density of a substance compared to the density of water. The symbol of weight percent is wt %. (a) Estimate the specific gravity of the 60 % mixture by assuming that y = mx c where y is wt % ethanol, x is mixture specific gravity. Values for m and c are constants. (b) Determine the required volume of the 40 % mixture.

QUANTUM CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 31.3 : In photoelectrical effect analysis of quantum chemistry, let E = kinetic energy of electron, p = intensity of UV light, f = frequency of UV light. According to Classical Theory, E = c for all values of f, E = mp. According to Quantum Theory, E = c for all values of p, E = mf + c. In a graph, m and c are constants where m is slope and c is y intercept. If m = 2 and c = 3 with similar value of E : (a) find the value of p according to Classical Theory; (b) find the value of f according to Quantum Theory.

THERMODYNAMIC - EXAMPLE 10.1 : The water is superheated steam at 440 degree Celsius and 17.32 megapascals. Estimate the enthalpy of the steam above. From the steam table for water at 440 degree Celsius, enthalpy of steam, h at 18 megapascals is 3103.7 kilojoules per kilogram and at 16 megapascal is 3062.8 kilojoules per kilogram. Assume that h = mP + c where P is pressure; m and c are constants at fixed temperature with small differences in P.
