IN THERMAL POWER PLANT WHY WE ARE USING SINGLE SHAFT FOR THE COUPLING OF HP,IP&LOW PRESSURE TU..

Answer / phani

however 3 turbines are having individual shafts only.
may be in some designs HP & IP are in single shaft and LP
only in another shaft for 110 MW BHEL design.
For any 500MW, All 3 turbines are coupled with individual
shafts only.
this concept is bases on Torque and Steam pressure.

IN THERMAL POWER PLANT WHY WE ARE USING SINGLE SHAFT FOR THE COUPLING OF HP,IP&LOW PRESSURE TU..

Answer / pradeep patel

according to me it can be very easily understood by an
example of multi cylinder i.c. engine in which output of
all of the cylinders is transferred to only 1 shaft.if
power is transfered to only 1 shaft the output can be
controlled very easily by using only 1 gear box & other
supporting arrangement. the another benifites are lower
initial cost & compactness of mechanism.
