generaly all power generating devices is expressed in KVA
or MVA then why power ststion is expressed in MW

Answer / anubis
KVA or MVA is used to measure apparent power. MW is used
for real power. Since the resistance and reactance for a
generating device is known, the apparent power can be
calculated. For the power station the apparent power will
not only depend upon the internal impedence of the station,
and the wies, but also upon the grid. This is not a fixed
number and varies with conditions, thus making it
impossible to judge. Thus it is safer to just give the real
power and then calculate th apparent power depending upon
the load used.

Answer / b.prakash.
KVA meanas apparent power it depends on power factor if
power factor is high the efficiency of system also high.
But in MW it true power means (load) if u r using a 2kw
heater then it will consume 2 kw. but in KVA suppose for ex.
transformer capacity is 1000kva & PF is 0.8 means we can
use only 80% of the total kva & it depends on the load also
that which type of load u r using. if u r using, capacitive
load or resistance load then the PF will be high. But if u
r using Inductive load then the PF will be less.

Answer / nikunj thakkar
the basic reason behind this question is that all the power station are heaving there reactive and active power delivering capacity so they are specifying that maximum power that can be delivered by company is in MW

Answer / jeet
Generally our devices losses only depends on voltage and current it does not includes P.f so we take there ratings in MVA or KVA but in power house the power generated and transmitted is depends on P.f also along with V and I.Therefore we keep rating of power house in Kw and aplliences in KVA or MVA.

Along with MW the rated PF also given on name plate of Gen
to display the optimum loading. That means at that PF the
rating is __ MW.

ASTM D 3455 - Standard Test Methods for Compatibility of Construction Material with Electrical Insulating Oil of Petroleum Origin has been used for Testing Transformer Oils with a product placed in it. Aged Control Oil has a Power Factor of 0.032% at 100°C. Aged Oil with a Test component has a Power Factor of 0.093% at 100°. Is this increase acceptable? If not why? How much increase is acceptable?
