In today's world, where competition is a fact of life and
the need for a work force knowledgeable in principles and
practices is a central concern for many companies, ISTQB
certification is a mark of excellence. The International
Software Testing Qualification Board (ISTQB) is an
internationally recognized certification body.
Both ISTQB and CSTE are different certification bodies.
However being a Tester and if you are starting your career
in Testing with less than 2 yrs experiance then the best
way to go about is to appear for ISTQB foundation exam.
ISTQB advance level is next stage to ISTQB foundation level.
which has 3 types of sublevels 1) Technical Tester, 2)
Functional Tester & 3)Test Manager
I have certified with CSTE and have 5+ yrs of exp. CSTE is
also very recognized as ISTQB.. but it involves more time
and effort for the exam.
Difference between the 2:
ISTQB Foundation :The Foundation Level exam consists of
approximately 40 multiple choice questions of 1 points
each. An exam amounts to 40 points total, of which 65%(26
points) must be attained in order to pass. The exam is a
closed book exam. You have 75 minutes to finish.
ISTQB Certified Tester is the first truly international
certification examination. This examination/certification
comes from International Software Testing Qualifications
Board (http://www.istqb.org)
For CSTE:
Pls. Visit http://www.softwarecertifications.org/ for up-to-
date information about the Exam
Exam Pattern:
• Exam has four sections and total exam duration is
270 min.
• There are 2 section having objective and 2 sections
having subjective paper.
• Objective paper has 50 questions and time limit is
45 min. You may be asked to match the pairs also.
• Subjective paper may have 6 to 10 questions and
time limit is 75 min.
• 10 min, break after each paper. Total duration is
(45 X 2 + 75 X 2 + 10 X 3 = 270 min)
• Passing = 75% >.
• You have to write the exam using HB pencil only.
I hope this helps. Wish you all the best. You may decide
accordingly.
