Initially we used to get build weekly once,but in later stages when the build was becoming stable,we used to get once in 2 or 3 days.

once developer completed coding for particular module he will give build to test lead, the build can get within test cycle.
test lead will connect to developer server, copy the compressed file and paste in testing server, and he will test the application
the developer or test engineer or release engineer can install build in software testing.
