Purpose of capavitor in a ceiling fan is to split the
phase, because with single phase rotory motion is not
possible.

ceiling fan is 1-phase motor . but we can run at 1-phase .
so ,used the split phase for starting the ceiling fan ,and
use of capacitor . we can say that the fun. is capacitor &
split phase.
