wt is cold junction compensation

wt is cold junction compensation..

Answer / d tilston

Cold junction compensation is required when using a
thermocouple, (TC) to measure temperature.
A TC uses two different types of metal to produce a very
small voltage. This voltage varies as the temperature
changes. The wire used on TC must be the same material as
the TC itself, otherwise you have just created another TC.
The voltage from the second TC will cause errors in the
reading from the first TC. When you get back to the device
that is interpreting this small voltage, you will be
connecting it to the copper on the boards of that device.
As stated earlier, this will create another two TCs, one for
each wire, but if your know the temperature at the device,
you can compensate for these additional voltages. That is
where the cold, (not in the process) junction compensation
is required.

Good Evening all.My question is - For a feed water line to an equipment if i need to measure the flow we will use orifice /magnetic/vortex depend on cost/spec.If i need to measure a ''Alarm''signal and ''Interlock'' from one point i think we can use orifice type in one location with 2 different tapping points - one for alarm and one for an interlock to flow valve..If in case i need to have both these signals(Alarm & interlock) from magnetic flow meter,is it possible??will 2 seperate sensors will be located inbuilt r we can program it ??..i thk we can have one transmitter with these 2 signals...need to know any technical issues are there?pls clarify

The wire is disconnected from the temperature sending unit (magnetic gauge). A voltmeter connected to the wire reads 0v. What does this indicate?
