How can transformer oil be used in transformers with voltage rating above its breakdown voltage?..

Answer / durga rao .n

in transformers oil be used for insulation purpose between
core and body, reducing winding temperatures. main thing
protecting for the transformer from un-balanced loads,
internal short circuits and winding temperatures. it's should
be have minimum break down voltage is 50KV.

How can transformer oil be used in transformers with voltage rating above its breakdown voltage?..

Answer / sanjay

Mineral Insulating oil in transformer is basically used as a
medium to transfer heat generated in winding to radiators.
The oil gets heated up when it comes in contact with winding
and gets cooled down when it passes thru radiators. This
constant cycle keeps the transformer oil temperature within
limits. As the oil is in constant contact with windings and
other live parts it should have good insulation level.
The break down voltage of transformer oil is the voltage at
which oil insulation breaks down when voltage is applied
between two electrodes spaced at 2.5 mm. distance.
But as the clearances between live parts maintained is much
more the oil can have lower BDV than voltage rating of
transformer.
