why universal motor work on ac & dc both?

why universal motor work on ac & dc both?..

Answer / deepankar

The universal motor is
designed for low power
ratings and are similar
in construction to that
of small dc motor.
Because of
compensating windings
used these have very
low reactance voltage
while running on ac
supply.
Its special design
makes it to operate like
an ac series motor
during operation on ac.
