why transmission lines traveled in high voltage?..

Answer / lakshmi

at constant power for higher voltages the current is
reduced according to the equation P = V I cos (phi)
then I = P/V cos (phi)
reduced current means less losses and incresed efficiency.
and also the size of the conductor is less due low current.
hence it is economical to transmitt higher voltages.
thats why the generated voltages are stepped up to higher
voltages.

why transmission lines traveled in high voltage?..

Answer / pandeyrahul

high current means more i*i*r losses which decreases the
efficiency

why transmission lines traveled in high voltage?..

Answer / arunraj

Because to minimise power loss while transmitting.
For example: If power of 1000watts has to be transmitted to
certain distance through transmission line having a
resistance R ohm.If it was transmitted at 200volt, the total
power loss in transmission is

power=VI=1000watts

current=power/voltage=(1000/200)=5 Amps

power loss=(I*I*R)=5*5*R=25R watts
If it was transmitted at 2000 volts,

I=1000/2000=0.5 Amps
power loss=(0.5*0.5*R)=0.25R watts
now we can see that at high voltage transmission line
current is small. so we can use conductors with small
thickness instead large bars.

why transmission lines traveled in high voltage?..

Answer / shahbaz shaikh

as we know that power transmission is depends on vtg and
current if we want to transmit high current then (as
current increases area and size ,cost incraeses) hence
transmission should be in high voltage
