Shunt coils are normally used to tripping the breaker for internal or external fault.Normally shunt coil is open(Normally open)whenever its get fault that time its closing the shunt coil .once shunt coil is pick up breaker is trip.

what is the meaning of 0.5ohm Resistance
in our 6.6kv motor feeder[it is having two sources from Bus A&B] earth fault relay is acting, we checked CBCT connection and cable meggerd values found very good still earth fault acting during first two are three start after that it will hold. please clarify what was the reason. if same motor is starting from other Bus-A it will start.
why we used.c source in the field of the alternator , why not a.c source.
