Shunt coils are normally used to tripping the breaker for internal or external fault.Normally shunt coil is open(Normally open)whenever its get fault that time its closing the shunt coil .once shunt coil is pick up breaker is trip.

why neutral grounding transformer is used for generator and why it is not used for transformers?
