Suppose you have hot oil and cold water, what kind fluid you
flow In shell side and tube side and why?

Answer / sagar mashru
Hot Fluid should be passed from tube side. Because, If hot
fluid is passed from shell side than there will be heat loss
and there will also be a question of safety because of hot
surface on outer side.

hot fluid should passed from tube side because it is easy to
clear the tube side or we can easily replaced the tube if
fouling kind of things happen which will reduce the rate of
heat transfer, while cold water should passed through shell side

Answer / kln
We have to consider the properties like corrosivity,
fouling factor etc.. while selecting the t/s or s/s fluids
in an exchanger. More fouling/corrosive material to be
selected on t/s as cleaning or replacement of tubes are
easy.

Thank you guys. I have seen your answers. I have a doubt about it. Oil is neither corrosive nor acidic. Then why can't we send it through shell side?

when both the fluids have equal corrosiveness, the fluid of high pressure should pass the tube side. Because the tendency of tubes to collapse by external pressure is double to that of by internal pressure.

Question 46 - In a steady state one dimensional conduction with no heat generation, the differential equation is d / dx (k dT / dx) = 0. Prove that T(x) = ax + b, where k, a and b are constants. (b) At x = 0, T = c and at x = L, T = d. Prove that T(x) = (d - c) x / L + c for boundary conditions.
A 1.5 weight % aqueous salt solution is concentrated to 4 weight % in a single-effect evaporator. The feed rate to the evaporator is F = 7500 kg / h and the feed is at 85 degree Celsius. The evaporator operates at 1 bar. By assuming that only pure solvent of water exists in the form of vapor from the feed, calculate the flow rate of such vapor V.

We are having proplem with the persperation smell in ETT/ECHO room in our cardiac hospital. The 2 Ton of AC is not conditioning the environment. We have to use exhaust fan to through out of the room bad air. Could anyone suggest how to coup with this effectively using chemical engineering. Any permanent solution to neutralise the bad smell. The Air freshners are not doing enough instead making a bad odour.
QUANTUM BIOLOGY - EXAMPLE 33.1 : In quantum biology, conditional entropy is given by H (S | O) = H (SO) - H (O). With reference to such equation, find another equation for H (SA).
What is the meaning – strain? In a distillation column, if a metal block 10 cm on a side is deformed so that it becomes 9 cm long due to cooling effect, what is the strain involved in percentage?

ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 34.21 : The cost of building a biochemical processing plant is increasing due to inflation. Let I = inflation rate, R = nominal interest rate, r = real interest rate. According to Fisher Equation, (1 + r)(1 + I) = (1 + R). According to General Inflation Equation, R = r + I. (a) By assuming that both r and I are fairly small, prove by mathematical calculations that complicated Fisher Equation could be simplified into the General Inflation Equation. (b) By using 2 first order Taylor expansions in the linear approximation, namely 1 / (1 + x) ≈ (1 - x), (1 + x)(1 + y) ≈ 1 + x + y, show by mathematical calculations that (1 + r) = (1 + R) / (1 + I) could be approximated by r ≈ R - I.
