(star or delta). on what basis it decided?

Answer / milinda4p
it may vary depending on the requirement of the
motor(whether high torque or high speed).but for an example
in a 3 phase induction motor where an high torque is needed
the rotor windings are first connected in star to get rid of
the large current(inrush) at the starting. & then after
starting it is set to delta to have a large current (because
then the voltage across a single winding is square root of 3
times that of in star=> square root 3 times larger current
in single winding) (to have a higher torque)

it is standard 6 terminal with 3Starting and 3ending points
of windings. Plz refer the below link for connection
diagram.
for low voltage motors,
Upto 2HP/1.5kW - star
above 2HP/1.5kW - Delta
With the same winding, power of the motor varies 3:1 ratio
in Delta to star.

Answer / raj.s
it depends on motor rating if it star typr connection will
made by shorting one terminal bed fully,
if it delta motor then accoding to diagram terminal
connections will occur in terminal box.
its just a connector ,we can made eithr star or delta.

What happent when a AC motor(no break and starters ) stop and suddenly start . ? Starting current low or high?? Why?
If a 1.5V,3W torch light bulb is connected in series with a 15HP/11.19KW,230V single phase motor and the combination is connected against a 230V supply and switched on than what will happen keeping all other parameters as it should be A)the bulb will glow normally B)the bulb will not glow C)the bulb will glow with extra brightness D)the bulb will burn out and if a fuse is connected to the above circuit will something happen to the fuse and what about the single phase motor will it be affected?
