why we can not do direct nitration of aniline
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / nsuresh_varma
Aniline is an amine and it has an active group - NH2 and it
is basic in nature. If it is not protected while nitration,
Nitric acid will react with NH2 to form a salt and / or it
will oxidize the NH2 to NO2. Therefore amine should be
protected b forming a salt before caring out Nitration.

Answer / chemist
Aniline have nh2 group which has a lone pair of electron and hence act as a base if direct nitration is occurred nh2 becomes protonated due to lone pair of electrons and become nh3+ and become electro withdrawing group so formed meta product instead of ortho and para so firstly acetylation take place and then nitration occur for ortho and para product
