what is rated current and operating current?

Answer / pillay
Rated current is the capacity of the equipment it is
designed to operate safely.
The operating current is the actual current drawn while in
operation.
For ex a 100 hp motor is rated at 140 amps but while under
load condition the operating current is only 100 amps.
This may be because the load to the motor is less.

In a motor rated current means the value of current when
rated specfied voltage and specified power is applied to
that (i.e., 100% loaded condition).. And operating current
means the value of current which is at specified voltage but
at a different(less) power rating which depends upon the
load torque.
