In urban area total load is large so there is a 3-phase
system from which all 1-phase consumers as well as 3-phase
L.T. Consumers are feeded.
But in rural area total load is low so we can feed all the
consumers by running only a 1-phase line also.
SO IN RURAL AREA 1-phase 230V line runs which feeds all the
consumers , is known as single phasing.

Generally we hv a rule that phase is directly prop. to
operating voltage(efficiency).And we also need low voltage
operation as possible for safety purpose.so for ssi(small
scale industry,house hold)440v/230v is requierd,which can be
implimented using single n multiple phases.but single phase
is efficient(conductor size,no pf conductor)etc.

To reduce the peak load on the system, single phase supply
is made available in rural areas for single phase domestic
and commercial use only

while doing the excitation current test on power transformer what is the value of voltage to be applied? Nomonal rated voltage or 10% of rated voltage? Is it necessary to apply on high voltage side?
