Charging off intangible assets to P&L A/c is called
amortization. It's similar to charging off Depreciation on
Fixed (Tangible) Assets. Patents, Copy Rights, Goodwill,
etc. are some of the example. Even Preliminary Expenditure
is an intangible asset and is charged of to P&L A/c of more
than one Accounting year (5yrs., 10yrs., etc.)

Reponses to the above query by Sameer and H.R Sreepad..
Bhagi,,. are sustained and i think Vijendra couldn't get
the question that's why has given a diplomatic answer.
question has clearly prescribed the word Intangible assets"
and intangible assets are amoritised not depreciated.
Further Adding if goodwill have been acquired then it is
shown in books and amortised.Self generated goodwill are
not shown in the books as per Accounting Standard 26 as per
IcAI. Thus, question for amortisation of self generated
goodwill don't arises.
