how to do 'pole drop test' on AC generator?
Answer / nizam salih
A pole drop test can be done when the generator is in
standstill condition. Provide a ac voltage of 230V to the
rotor terminals of the salient pole machine and measure the
voltage drop in each pole. At least 5A should flow through
the rotor poles. A small current will not provide good
results. Once the voltage drops are recorded calculate the
drop index as follows.
Index = (max. value - min. value)/avearge value *100 %
An index value of less than 5% reprsents the poles are
good.
This is the usual annual test that we carry out in our
hydro generators.

Hello, I am just preparing my self for a university interview and struck on the 11kv ring main unit system network. I just know that ring main unit has total three breakers, fuses and use to supply a power to any load/ building without any interrupt. But i am not be able to visualize the connections, either Ring main unit getting power from two different power sources? or there is always one feeder in complete ring circuit??? I would be highly thanks full of you help me.

Why a Transformer Noise during its running condition ??
We have 11kV/110V three phase indoor potential transformer in 66/11kV Sub-station, where the failure of PT is frequently happening and the rating of the PT is 0.2 class accuracy, with primary star and seconday (two cores) star connected. Some experts has suggested to not to connect the PT Primary neutral to the ground because when transformer neutal NCT connection is loose; the faulty current will flow through the PT primary neutral, resulting into failure of PT. My question is: Is it necessary to remove the primary neutral connection of the PT from ground? if not, what would be the reason for failure of PT. Please guide me.
Which of the following are the important limitations of rod gap surge arresters? 1. They are not capable of selling off power frequency follow up current. 2. After a discharge, the rods are destroyed completely. 3. Performance is affected by climatic conditions. Use the following codes for selecting the correct answer.
