at the power factor near to unity there are no transmission losses and the plant capacity also increases

We have to supply the power to the grid. So there is a capacitance is developed due to the high voltage lines and the earth surface. so in turn the voltage will increase till it reaches to the grid so maintain the required voltage we transmit it at a lagging power factor.
