basic purpose of a resistor in a circuit is to control the
value current as we require.

Resistor is something which resists the follow of current. Basically in a easier way it can be explained as it resists the flow of current. But if we look into it a bit deeper.The resistance property can be attributed to the atomic arrangement and its vibrations. The lattice vibrates and due to these lattice vibrations the follow of electrons are hindered and the current flow is affected. This property is know as resistance. In a circuit resistance can be used to reduce the current flow.
