The design of ELCB is such way that all current passes
from phase to neutral to complete the path . Any current
passes from phase or neutral to ground sense the circiut
that there is deflection of current and trips it to stop
supply.

I think only RCCB requires the neutral wire connection and
earth wire connection is for ELCB.If there is any leakage in
neutral wire ,the ELCB trips if neutral comes in contact
with the earth wire.

How does ELCB WORKS?
If we are using a ELCB:
In fault condition or if the circuit is in open condition, current passes through the neutral.
We are connecting the ELCB from neutral to ground.
The fault or open circuit current in the neutral passes to ground and the equipment get protected from the severe shock.

A 15 kw squirrel cage motor having a maximum efficiency of 90% on a continuous full load has temperature rise of 42 degrees celcius after 30 min and 52 degrees celcius after 1 hr under the above operation conditions. a) calculate its final steady state temperature rise on continuous load and the heating time constatnt. b) if the motor is operated on a short load for 9 min estimate its temperature rise. c) calculate the maximum overload that can be applied on a short, 9 min rating so that the temperature rise is the same as the final steady state temperature rise on continuous load.
