In KF Standardisation Why We using Disodium Tartarate?

Answer / vattikuti rambabu
DST very Barely dissolved in methanol (water very hardly released) due to this reason use DST for KF instrument standardization purpose and one more standard use water for KF standardization purpose, water is very miscible in methanol due to this reason both used for KF standardization .both type of materials (barely released and easily released water) suitable for use instrument.
primary standard it have only two water molecule and gives
very accurate results (all atmosphere stable) .
Dst molicular formula is C4H4Na2O6.2H2O.
This molicular weight is 230.06.
Water content of DST is 15.66.
Calculation:In DST two water molicules are there=2*18=36
=(36/230.06*100)

Though there are many chemical reagents which can be used as a primary standard for the standardization of KF reagent, DST is most commonly preferred because it has only two water molecules (C4H4Na2O6.2H2O).This DST gives Constant/same result water content By LOD (or)by KF titrator., i.e..about 15.66% of H2O.

1.0 DST is not absorb any moisture from the atmosphere in the room temperature.
2.0 DST is primary standard.
3.0 DST Had known water molecule(2H2O) and had constant water content value 15.66%
4.0 DST is easily dissolved in methanol and not degraded in methanol.

Answer / ---
In DST there are two water molecues. Those two are very
stable.Eventhough we are drying upto 105c the molecule is
stable.when DST reacts with another substance these two
water molecules are stable.DST is soluble in methanol.

No buddy clearly defined and chemistry behind the DST ,if we are using water for the determinatio of factor then same result are coming for both DST and water, Can any body suggest why DST is used for factory determination if the water content is NMT 1.0%

Answer / rajesh jaiswal
We can also use distilled water instead of DST, but we can not take water weight, hence DST is used.
During analysis, Ist methanol will take and neutralize moisture in methanol with some amount of KF & after that add DST & the water availability should be 15.6%.
DST is more stable
Very soluble in methanol
Two mol of hydrate stable
stable at 105 c
we can take wt
