Why oil preferred over the air as a cooling medium for high
rated transformer?

Why oil preferred over the air as a cooling medium for high rated transformer?..

Answer / iamdon

Since the transformer is a static device. So no heat loss is
possible through rotation.Majority of heat developed is
dissipated through convection. The oil is superior medium
for convection with respect to air.So the choice is oil as
cooling medium.

Technical data
Convection in oil(100 W/m*m/@C)= 12*convection in air(8
W/m*m/@C).
