Railways. In railways for the regenertion braking system.

first of all why do we call it a drive instead of just calling it as a motor . its because ac drive or dc drive is a combination of a controlling circuit and a motor. so that we can control the speed, direction and regenrative power.
and these drives are mostly use in railways thats why sometime they will be called as traction motors.
controlling circuit used is a combination of thyristors and diodes so as to change the voltage or frequency to control the speed of ac drives.
