due to any cause phase and neutral are connected, then due
to less resistance high current will flow throw the wire.
the amount of current is several times high and it will
affect the system which connected to the wire. when high
current is flow due to power loss wire is heated and
damaged. the other effect is sharp arcing which is produces
due to high current density.

when phase and earth wire comes in contact , then b/w phase
and earth have zero resistanse due to this( R = V/I ) an
infinite current flow though it when an infinite current
flow losses is also became infinite due to heat wire will
be damage .
