Yes we need to take few steps before installing the transformer like verifing the site , load calculation , transformer rating should be more than 25% load holding capacity grounding arrangement should be good enough and the insulators should be tended of dielectric strength and the lighting arrestor should be connected to the hv source and must be connected to ground as well
