star:All similar points are conected it is called (in three
phase) star.it must be open
Delta:vice versa,it must be closed loop

in star delta starter,there are three contactors,one timer use in them, when we start the starter in starting star and main contacter is on after 5 seconds star contactor is going to off mode through the timer setting, and afterall main and delta contactor is on position, when star contactor is on motors current is increasing slowly, if this motor is not running at this position for long time, so after the timer setting it will going to delta position in delta position it will taking a normal current
