Answer / ankit
cavitation depends upon the phenomenon of the boiling of
the liquid.
BOILING OCCURS WHEN THE VAPOR PRESSURE OF THE LIQUID IS
GREATER THAN ATM.(LOCAL) PRESSURE. THE SAME THING IS SAME
IN THE CASE OF CAVITATION.
CAVITATION CONSIDER THE MAIN FATOR IN THE PUMP.
WHEN THE LIQUID VAPOR PRESSURE IS GREATER THAN THE ATM.
PRESSURE THEN BUBBLE FORMATION OCCURS AND THIS CAUSES THE
PROBLEM FOR THE PUMP'S OTHER PARAMETERS LIKE CAPACITY,
POWER, HEAD, ETC. THE MAIN POINT OF CONCERN IS THAT THIS
CAUSES PROBLEM FOR THE IMPELLER AND ITS SPEED
FOR PREVENTION FOR THIS PHENOMENON TWO FACTOR ARE: ONE IS
TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND REQUIRED NPSH. LAST ONE IS ON THE
MAIN FOCUS.
FOR THE PREVENTION OF THE CAVITATION WE SHOULD BE CONFIRM
THAT OUR REQUIRED NPSH IS SUITABLE FOR THE PUMP AND PUMP
STATIC HEAD.

Cavitation obviously occured due to the lack of demanded
volume of water inside the pump chamber causing vacuume
pressure developes than the water pressure resulting
bubbles hammering to the pump walls leading to the failure
of the pump
