How we can test the performance of an application by manual
with out using any tool like loadrunner etc?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
We can test the application manually but yes not for number
of user (load testing).
We can do performance testing of application for single
user like for how much time is taken to open up page,
uploading a file and other scenarios like this using system
clock.

We can Test the performance of the application manually, but
there are some drawbacks
1. More no. of peoples required.
2. Simultanious actions are not possible.
3. Co-ordination and Co-operation is missing.
4. Repeating the task is not easy
5. Proper monitoring system is not available.
These can be done by Load Runner.

poonam ,the two things, which you have given are not enough
for completetion of performance test.mainly performance
means to test the load, for that we need customer expected
load(systems) ,it is not possible,so we go for tools there
we have virtual user generator ,by using that we can
generate customer xpected load

I beg to disagree, as you've mentioned "functionality of an
email", hence we are verifying the functional specification
of the email. Performance testing is non-functional testing
as we are verifying the performance capability of the
application under certain load or condition.
Therefore, we cannot measure performance testing manually
that is there is a need to use performance testing tool.

Hi,
We can do performance testing Manually as well, without
using any automation tool. Ex: suppose we need to test the
functionality of an email i.e. how many no of attachments
we can send with an email. we can do it manually by adding
as many no of attachments of diffrent sizes like 1mb,2mb
etc and with different types like word files, excel files
and so on and check the performance how it responds.
This is Manual performance testing and can there can be n
number of Manual performance testing example like this one.
Thanks

I truly agree with the Poonam's point..Brilliant answer..
Yes I do agree that performance testing is not possible
without any tool. But one thing we have to keep in mind is
performance testing not only talks about Loading on to the
system. Action of the system at certain pre-defined
conditions is called as performance testing.
As 'Poonam' and 'Pranav' said, we test the performance of
the system limited to only one user or else few of the users
through manual testing..But, to do this there would be drama
behind of that...Coordination between the users, time sense,
all these things needs to take in to the consideration..
Correct me if I am wrong any of the ways..

In Performace testing, we try to record, measure and
estimate the behaviour of the application.
We can do this activity very efficiently with the use of
tools.
However, we can also measure certain behaviours manually
and can be used as input for estimating teh behaviour of
application. The things which can be measured manually
includes:
Memory usage for processing a request (of a web server as
well as client),
Throughput (of web server, Database server),
Time taken for processing a request (by server and client)
The results will be more efficient by using a tool.
