Damn basic knowledge... Even a milk man could answer these, given the following condition
1) 1 8l jar and 2 5l jar ( **read the question properly.there is no one 8l and one 5l & one
3l**)
2) The question doesn't contain the amount of milk provided and it only ask for any two
jar to contain 4l at the end (**which means we could use any amount of milk to
experiment but at the end it should contain only 2 jars of only 4l {2*4=8} **)
3) There hasn't been given any kind of similarity existing between two 5l jar. Both the 5l
jar could be of different sizes..(**which means taking references level with respect to
any one of the jar is wrong**)
Now the solution to the problem is given below
Note:
** 0 denotes that the jar is empty
** any number other than 0 gives the litre quantity present in the jar
**The order of numbering in litres is for the jar order: 8l jar, 5l jar, 5l jar

Let the 8ltrs jar be A
One 5ltrs Jar be B
Other 5ltrs jar be C
We have 8 ltrs of milk
Fill the jar C to the rim
0 0 5
We have 3ltrs of milk now
Now pour the milk onto the jar B, so now it has 3 ltrs of milk
0 3 5
Jar A is empty
Using Jar B as reference pour 2 ltrs of milk from Jar C to Jar A
2 3 3
Now Jar A as reference pour 1ltr from Jar B to Jar C
2 2 4
Pour the rest of the milk in Jar A to Jar C

Elementary . First you pour the 8 jar in the 5 jar till its full. Then there will be 3 litres of milk in the 8 jar ,and from the 5 jar that isnow full , pour the milk into the 3 jar . This is where the fun begins . Take the 3 jar thats full and pour it into the 8 jar which now consists of 6 litres. Take the remaining 2 litres in the 5 jar and and pour it into the 3 jar . Once thats done . Take the 8 jar with 6 litre and pour it into 5 jar till its full living 8 jar with 1 litre . Now from the 5 jar that full and pour milk into the 3 jar . U end up pouring only one litre of milk leaving you with a 4 litres in the 5 jar . If u want to go farther and pour the 3 jar into the 8 jar . It will also total 4 litres living 3 jar empty

The most restrictive version and I believe the one asked, is having ONLY 8lts of milk available, already inside the 8lts jar and having to juggle with only the vessels you are given. Said this the answer is:
Start with the 8lt jar full and both 5 and 3ltrs jars empty.
3 5 0 (pour from the 8lts and fill 5ltr jar))
3 2 3 (fill the 3lts jar using the 5lts one)
6 2 0 (pour the 3lts jar into the 8lts one, so now its 6lts)
6 0 2( Pour the 2lts remaining in the 5 ltr jar into the 3 ltrs jar, note there is space for 1 ltr free still)
1 5 2 (take the 8lts jar that now has 6 ltrs, and fill the 5ltrs jar leaving 1 ltr in the 8ltrs jar)
1 4 3 ( take the 5 ltrs jar and complete the 3 ltrs jar, leaving 4 ltrs in the 5ltrs jar)
4 4 0 (pour the 3ltrs jar into the 8ltrs jar and job done.

100 Gold Coins Five pirates have obtained 100 gold coins and have to divide up the loot. The pirates are all extremely intelligent, treacherous and selfish (especially the captain). The captain always proposes a distribution of the loot. All pirates vote on the proposal, and if half the crew or more go "Aye", the loot is divided as proposed, as no pirate would be willing to take on the captain without superior force on their side. If the captain fails to obtain support of at least half his crew (which includes himself), he faces a mutiny, and all pirates will turn against him and make him walk the plank. The pirates start over again with the next senior pirate as captain. What is the maximum number of coins the captain can keep without risking his life?
