Explain the concept of compaction in Cassandra?
Answer / Ranjit Maurya
Compaction is the process in Cassandra that merges SSTables (sorted string table) to reduce storage usage and improve read performance by eliminating duplicates, defragmenting data, and keeping data sorted. There are different compaction strategies available in Cassandra like Leveled Compaction Strategy (LCS), Size-Tiered Compaction Strategy (STCS), and Time-based Compaction Strategy (TWCS).
