Fuel is defined as an combustible substance which may be
burn to supply heat energy without the production of excess
of by products

Good fuel should have following requisites:-

(1)It should be sharp.

(2)Should yield little ash

(3)On burning these should not give any undesirable products

(4)It should have a high heat content

Fuels are of following types:

(a)Solid duels:-These are derived from plants directly or
indirectly and wood, coal ,coke etc..

(b)Liquid fuels:-These leave no ash e.g. Petroleum, alcohol
etc..

(c)Gaseous fuels:-Combustible gases make excellent fuels

Fuel gases:-These gases can flow through pipes and can be
used at a moment?s notice. These gases have high heat
contents. Important fuel gases are:-

1. Water gas

2. Semiwater gas

3. Oil gas

4. Sewage gas

5. Producer gas

6. Coal gas

7. Natural gas
