Two methanol-water mixtures are contained in separate tanks. The first mixture contains 40.0 wt % methanol and the second contains 70.0 wt % methanol. If 200 kg of the first mixture is combined with 150 kg of the second, what are the mass and composition of the product? The symbol of weight percent is wt %.

Two methanol-water mixtures are contained in separate tanks. The first mixture contains 40.0 wt % m..

Answer / kang chuen tat

Total mass of product mixture = 200 kg + 150 kg = 350 kg. Total mass of methanol in product mixture = 0.4 x 200 + 0.7 x 150 = 80 kg + 105 kg = 185 kg. Mass fraction of methanol in product mixture = 185 / 350 = 0.5286 or 52.86 wt %. Mass fraction of water in product mixture = 1 - 0.5286 = 0.4714 or 47.14 wt %. X is a solid having a white colour at room temperature. It has a density about 2g/cc. Although it has melting point near 325 degree Celsius, its properties start degrading above 260 degree Celsius. The coefficient of friction is very low about 0.1. It has very good dielectric properties especially at higher radio frequencies. It has a very high bulk resistivity. It is chemically inert. It is also resistant to van der Waals force. It is hydrophobic as well as lipophobic. Creep or ‘Cold Flow’ has been observed in X.

Question 86 - (a) Male with genotype GGmm and phenotype gray wingless mates with female with genotype ggMM and phenotype black winged in fruit flies. G is dominant to g in color. M is dominant to m in wing shape. If the actual distribution of the second generation of the fruit flies was as follow : 890 gray wingless, 900 black winged, 115 gray winged, 95 black wingless, calculate the recombination frequency betwen the two genes and distance in recombination units. Let 1 map unit = 1 % recombination. (b) A DNA molecule has 180 base pairs and 20 % adenine. How many cytosine nucleotides are present in this molecule of DNA?
