How do you shutdown an interface on a router or switch?

By login to that interface in ( conf t) mode give the
command "shutdown"

Go to Global configuration mode and then enter into
particular interface and give the command shutdown.
example:
router(congig) int s o/o
router(config-if)shutdown.

Router#Serial0/0 is administratively down, line protocol is
down
administratively down shows it is manually shutdown by
