When electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy m/c acts as a motor& when mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy it acts as a generator. This is the basic principle. As far as induction motor is concerned what mentioned above is true.

when yhe slip is possitive at that time machine acts as
motor as s=(Ns-N)/Ns and when slip is negative acts as
genrator.

Is single load(eg: three phase motor) having all the components like positive,negative,zero sequence components during fault condition?
